We are Geologist too!

We have been exploring rocks and minerals. We learned about how rocks are made over the years from sand, other rocks, minerals, and fossils. Geologist find fossils from animals and plants inside rocks when they are broken apart. In order to mimic the process of exploration of a geologist we used mock rocks. Mock rocks are hand made rocks from sand, flour, salt and water. We discovered some of our own little treasures inside our rocks.

We reviewed our safety procedures and once we were all fitted with our safety goggles, work mats and tools (pick and magnifying glass) we began the process of exploring our rocks.

Subtraction with Regrouping Strategy

Below you will find a resource to help your child with subtraction with regrouping. This is a visual to show you what we did in class with manipulatives in a hands on activity when we learned subtraction with regrouping. Dimes and pennies can be used as manipulatives to represent 10s and 1s when working with subtraction problems that require regrouping. On homework and classwork, the student will need to show his/her work.

Welcome back!!

Welcome back for the second semester! I hope everyone had a wonderful Winter Break! I know I enjoyed spending time with family and friends over the holiday. Even though the break was wonderful I was ready to get back to school to your little darlings.
Our first week back was a fun and busy one! We began with a review of our classroom expectations and Daily 5 expectations. On Thursday, January 6 we had a wonderful author visit from Ellen Leventhall and on Friday, January 7 the whole school participated in a Taste Off during health fitness.
In the next couple of weeks I hope to have the blog up to date with our classroom information. I appreciate your patience while I figure all of this out.
